Fantasia 2016: She's Allergic to Cats

A Hollywood dog groomer aspires to be a filmmaker, while courting the girl of his dreams in She's Allergic to Cats. Michael Pinkney (Michael Pinkney) is dog groomer in Hollywood, who spends his free time making experimental video art and dream of making an all-cat remake of Carrie. On the job, Michael meets Cora (Sonja Kinski), who turns out to be the girl of his dreams.

She's Allergic to Cats is a very weird and experimental film that is frankly quite difficult to describe. While having a rough narrative involving Michael's aspirations to become a filmmaker, while also courting Cora, the film seems more about blasting you with some very weird and messed up imagery. Whether it be directions for grooming a dog (complete with cleaning anal glands) or a random naked black man in a dressing room, there will be times when you question what exactly it is you are watching.

I am going to say straight up that She's Allergic to Cats is not a film for everyone and will probably turn many people off. However, there is something strangely fascinating about the VHS-like experimental imagery first time filmmaker Michael Reich brings to the screen. She's Allergic to Cats is a really indescribable film, which has to be seen to be believed. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if She's Allergic to Cats ends up becoming a cult classic.
