The Humber Cinema: Two Months Later

Humber Cinema

's been two months now since the reopening of the Humber Cinema.  It's definitely been slow couple of months with only four films have played at the theatre, the turnaround usually being 3-4 weeks.

This afternoon, I decided to go to the Humber for the first time since it reopened with  back in April.  Being a Tuesday afternoon (usually a slow time in general for movie theatres), I couldn't really gauge if the crowds have improved, but I did see quite a few families in attendance for the screening of .

I was pleased to notice that the theatre now has debit machines installed, which will definitely make things more convenient for future trips (even though there is a bank right across the street).  I also noticed many “coming soon” posters, most of which featured family-friendly films, such as Puss ‘N Boots and The Smurfs (there was also a poster for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows, Part 2, which I think is the next film to be playing at the Humber).  Not sure if those family films are confirmed to be playing at the theatre, but it does make sense, with Bloor West Village being such a family-friendly area.  That said, I'm sure there will still also be films for adults like me (as evidenced by a brief one-week run of , Part II that played last week).

I noticed work was well underway on the larger lower-level theatre, which will apparently be dubbed the “Humber Orchestra Circle”.  This screen will be opening next month with  and I will definitely make sure to post my thoughts when I go check it out.

In conclusion, I think that the Humber is progressing nicely.  I definitely think I will start heading to the Humber more regularly  the second screen opens and the theatre starts playing more of the major releases.  I'm also quite interested about the plans to use an unused portion of the theatre and create two additional (smaller) screens.

It's definitely going to be an interesting few months.
