Trailer Thoughts: The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn

tintin

Here is the first teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson's Motion Capture CGI adaptation of the Belgian comic.

While fairly popular in Europe, I would say that Tintin is fairly in North America, though Canadians are more likely to recognize the character than Americans, thanks to a Canadian-produced animated series that aired in the early 1990s (I know that's how I know the character).  As such, for most people, this teaser may be their first introduction to the character.

I have to say that I was fairly impressed by teaser, which is only just a minute long.  The CGI graphics are quite impressive, but I suppose you wouldn't expect anything less from WETA Digital.  The film looks to provide both a pseudo-realism to the action, while also retaining the original look of the comics.  I think 's the still-cartoony look of the characters that helps with the uncanny valley problems prevalent in other motion capture films.

I am quite looking forward to seeing this film when it opens this Christmas.
