Golden Globes Predictions

The Golden Globes may not mean so much these days (just look at those puzzling nominations for Best Picture - Musical/Comedy), however I still thought it would be fair to give my predictions anyway.

Best Picture - Drama
Nominees:
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King's Speech
The Social Network

Prediction: The King's Speech
Alternate: The Social Network
Reason: I would call The King's Speech to be a shoe-in, however a lot of last-second accolades for The Social Network has raised its profile a bit.

Best Picture - Musical or Comedy
Nominees:
Alice in Wonderland
Burlesque
The Kids Are All Right
Red
The Tourist

Prediction: The Kids Are All Right

Reason: This is the most puzzling Golden Globes category and personally I think that The Kids Are Alright is the only film on this list that truly deserves the award (even though I have yet to see it).

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama
Nominees:
Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network
Colin Firth for The King's Speech
James Franco for 127 Hours
Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine
Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter

Prediction: Colin Firth
Alternate: Ryan Gosling
Reason: Colin Firth is DEFINITELY a shoe-in to win here, though I was impressed by Gosling's performance in Blue Valentine.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
Nominees:
Halle Berry for Frankie and Alice
Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence for Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman for Black Swan
Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine

Prediction: Natalie Portman

Alternate: Nicole Kidman

Reason: I'm fairly sure that Portman will win here.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical Or Comedy
Nominees:
Johnny Depp for The Tourist
Johnny Depp for Alice in Wonderland
Paul Giamatti for Barney's Version
Jake Gyllenhaal for Love and Other Drugs
Kevin Spacey for Casino Jack

Prediction: Paul Giamatti
Alternate: Kevin Spacey
Reason: Based on what I heard, the only true contenders for this award is Giamatti and Spacey.  I'll go with the former.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
Nominees:
Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right
Anne Hathaway for Love and Other Drugs
Angelina Jolie for The Tourist
Julianne Moore for The Kids Are All Right
Emma Stone for Easy A

Prediction: Julianne Moore
Alternate: Annette Bening
Reason: This is a hard one to pick, since I haven't seen any of these films.  I'll just go with either one of the two nominations for The Kids Are All Right.

Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Nominees:
Christian Bale for The Fighter
Michael Douglas for Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps
Andrew Garfield for The Social Network
Jeremy Renner for The Town
Geoffrey Rush for The King's Speech

Prediction: Christian Bale
Alternate: Geoffrey Rush
Reason: Both Bale and Rush were good, but I'll have to go with the former and his extreme method acting.

Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
Nominees:
Amy Adams for The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter for The King's Speech
Mila Kunis for Black Swan
Melissa Leo for The Fighter
Jacki Weaver for Animal Kingdom

Prediction: Melissa Leo
Alternate: Helena Bonham Carter
Reason: This is a hard one to pick, since they were all good.  I'll go with Melissa Leo.

Best Director - Motion Picture
Nominees:
Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan
David Fincher for The Social Network
Tom Hooper for The King's Speech
Christopher Nolan for Inception
David O. Russell for The Fighter

Prediction: Tom Hooper
Alternate: David Fincher
Reason: See Best Picture - Drama

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
Nominees:
127 Hours: Danny Boyle, Simon Beaufoy
Inception: Christopher Nolan
The Kids Are All Right: Stuart Blumberg, Lisa Cholodenko
The King's Speech: David Seidler
The Social Network: Aaron Sorkin

Prediction: The Social Network
Alternate: The King's Speech
Reasion: I'm going to actually flip my predictions here from my Best Picture picks.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture
Nominees:
127 Hours: A.R. Rahman
Alice in Wonderland: Danny Elfman
Inception: Hans Zimmer
The King's Speech: Alexandre Desplat
The Social Network: Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross

Prediction: The Social Network
Alternate: Inception
Reason: Reznor all the way!

Best Original Song - Motion Picture
Nominees:
“Bound to You” — Burlesque
“Coming Home” — Country Strong
“I See the Light” — Tangled
“There's a Place for Us” — Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
“You Haven't Seen the Last of Me” — Burlesque

Prediction: Tangled
Reason: I heard good stuff about that song.

Best Animated Feature Film
Nominees:
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Tangled
Toy Story 3

Prediction: Toy Story 3
Alternate: How to Train Your Dragon
Reason: You can't beat Pixar (though I've heard good things about "How to Train Your Dragon")

Best Foreign Language Film
Nominees:
Biutiful (Mexico/Spain)
The Concert (France)
The Edge (Russia)
I Am Love (Italy)
In a Better World (Denmark)

Prediction: Biutiful
Alternate: The Concert
Reason: I've hear that Biutiful is one of the best films of the year, let alone foreign film.

And those are the predictions.
