You might have noticed a lack of DVD columns during the last month or so. That's because I usually slow down on DVD purchases right before the holidays. Now, with the holidays right upon us, I will post this summary of my top DVD picks for the season.

My #1 pick is undoubtedly Christopher Nolan's Inception and its one film I definitely want to receive as a gift on Saturday morning. On to the picks.

Inception

My Thoughts: A cerebral film that will benefit from multiple viewings, but still enjoyable.

The Disappearance of Alice Creed
Blu-Ray – $27.97 (CAN), $13.99 (US)
Standard – $28.76 (CAN), $18.49 (US)
My Thoughts: A captivating film, with many twists that makes it more interesting as it goes along.

Devil
Blu-Ray – $32.89 (CAN), $23.99 (US)
Standard – $33.49 (CAN), $17.99 (US)
My Thoughts: One of the better films to come out with M Night Shyamalan's name on it and it could probably be ranked among the better films that he directed.

The A-Team

My Thoughts: Entertaining film, which can be described as one of the more successful TV adaptations.

The Expendables
Blu-Ray/DVD Combo – $26.99 (CAN), $19.99 (US)

My Thoughts: An alright enough film, but it was a far cry from “the action film to end all action films.”

Disney's A Christmas Carol

Standard – $16.99 (CAN), $13.49 (US)
My Thoughts: A decent adaptation of the classic story.

The Other Guys

Standard – $19.99 (CAN), $16.99 (US)
My Thoughts: There are funny bits throughout the film, but it doesn't hold a candle to Will Ferrel's previous films with Adam McKay.

Knight and Day

Standard – $14.99 (CAN), $14.99 (US)
My Thoughts: A very entertaining film that allows Tom Cruise to poke fun at his star persona.

Iron Man 2

Standard – $30.23 (CAN), $23.99 (US)
My Thoughts: Despite a slow middle act, I was happy with how this film turned out.
