TPB: Biggest Canadian Film Ever?

Here in Canada it’s an interested weekend.  Not only do we get the usual big releases, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, Employee of the Month, and The Departed, the film version of one Canada’s most popular TV shows of recent years is opening of the big screen: Trailer Park Boys.

I admit that I haven’t been a regular viewer of the show.  In fact, I haven’t yet watched a complete episode.  However, the foul-mouthed trio known as Ricky, Julian, and Bubbles have become something of a phenomenon in these parts.

Hopefully, this popularity will bring people into theatres and make this movie the most successful Canadian movie ever.  I think it will help that Ivan Reitman (of Ghostbusters fame) is executive producer.  Reitman’s involvement should definitely give this film a better chance of getting released stateside, which is something that eluded past high profile Canadian films.

I will be doing my part and checking the film out, even though I also really want to see The Departed, which I will probably see some other time.
