Movies of the Moment - January 14, 2005

I was meaning to start this column last week, but I never found time to do it.

Basically, each week I will provide my thoughts about the major theatrical releases for the week.

These aren't reviews and, chance are, I will never see the majority of the movies I talk about.

Let's get started.

Elektra
In Daredevil, everybody paid more attention to Jennifer Garner's Elektra instead of Ben Affleck's title character. As a result, it was a given that she be given her own movie. All I can say it that I am not very impressed by what I saw about the movie. It doesn't look as downright awful, as Catwoman was, but it's not that far off.

Racing Stripes
You know, I shouldn't even be giving my thoughts about this movie. This movie is for kids and that's that. At least it looks like a decent film instead of some of the other family fare coming out (Karate Dog anyone?). Though, I do agree, it could do without David Spades and Steve Harvey's wisecracking flies.

Coach Carter
The latest in the batch of "Based on a true story high school sports movies." While this looks like one of the better ones, I think I will give it a pass.

About Sean Kelly -

Sean Patrick Kelly is a self-described ├╝ber-geek, who has been an avid film lover for all his life. He graduated from York University in 2010 with an honours B.A. in Cinema and Media Studies and he likes to believe he knows what he’s talking about when he writes about film (despite occasionally going on pointless rants).
