Golden Globes Wrap Up

Well, the 62nd Golden Globes have come and gone. It was a so so year for me, with me correctly predicting 6 of the 13 nominees. I'm going to try and make this recap as fast as possible.

Best Picture - Drama
My Prediction: Million Dollar Baby
Winner: The Aviator
Final Thoughts: Like I said, this category was between these two movies. I just went behind the wrong one. This is going to make my Oscar pick for Best Picture pretty difficult.

Best Picture - Musical or Comedy
My Prediction & Winner: Sideways
Final Thoughts: Some people may think of this as a surprise, but when a movie gets the most nominations, you though there's something about it.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama

My Prediction & Winner: Leonardo DiCaprio
Final Thoughts: This was the most surpising of my predictions to come true. This definitely is the beginning of a new era in Leonardo DiCaprio's career. It will be interesting to see what the Oscars bring.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama
My Prediction & Winner: Hilary Swank
Final Thoughts: It was a great performance. What else can be said?

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
My Prediction & Winner: Jamie Foxx
Final Thoughts: Jamie Foxx was a shoe-in for this award. Enough said. I think he might be doing battle with Leo for the Best Actor award at the Oscars.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy
My Prediction: Kate Winslet
Winner: Annette Bening
Final Thoughts: I did here good things about Bening's performance, but I wouldn't know if it was award worthy or not (I never saw the film).

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
My Prediction: Jamie Foxx
Winner: Clive Owen
Final Thoughts: This is another performance I heard good things about. I will keep Owen in mind when I make my Oscar predictions.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture
My Prediction: Cate Blanchett
Winner: Natalie Portman
Final Thoughts: Even though I didn't pick her, Natalie Portman DEFINITELY won't be remembered just for Star Wars.

Best Director - Motion Picture
My Prediction: Martin Scorsese
Winner: Clint Eastwood
Final Thoughts: Scorsese just won the award 2 years ago. So, what do you do? Give it to the next guy.

Best Screenplay - Motion Picture
My Prediction: Charlie Kaufman
Winner: Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor
Final Thoughts: I should have known Kaufman would be ignored again. I really should see Sideways.

Best Original Score - Motion Picture
My Prediction & Winner: Howard Shore
Final Thoughts: I hate to say it, but this was a lucky guess.

Best Original Song - Motion Picture
My Prediction: Learn to Be Lonely
Winner: Old Habits Die Hard
Final Thoughts: I did like Mick Jagger's song the best, but I didn't know if it had a chance to win.

Best Foreign Language Film
My Prediction & Winner: The Sea Inside
Final Thoughts: It's awards like this that really show how much I listen to the buzz.

So, where do I go from here? In a little over a week, the Oscar nominees will be announced. While I like to make my predictions early, I'm going to take my time this year. There are no clear winners this year going into the Oscars. Even the Golden Globe winners can't really shed much light, since the winners of the major awards will probably be running against each other. I probably won't make any Oscar predictions until a week before the awards. This awards season will be very interesting indeed.
